Sneakersntuff has commissioned New York based photographer Shaniqwa Jarvis to kick off their first collaborative artist series that will exhibit out of the newly opened SNS retail concept space. It was important for SNS to tap an artist like Jarvis - a woman born and raised in NYC - whose work exemplifies the inclusive human ethos of the Swedish based retailer and brand. The idea for the portrait series is straightforward – to capture portraits of New York youth that Jarvis connected with and all of their beautiful diversity. For this, Jarvis reached out to the ultimate New York cultural anthropologist and journalist Mordechai Rubinstein - @Mistermort - to collaborate with casting the shoot. The result is 22 black and white images of some of the most active and interesting youth in NYC.

The Shaniqwa Jarvis project “Connections” will be the first of a rotating artist program that Sneakersnstuff will be commissioning for the New York retail concept space at 22 Little West 12th Street. The show will open on January 24th, with a party 6-9pm and will exhibit in the shop through February 21st. To coincide, SNS will be releasing two limited edition products featuring an image from Jarvis’ archive, which she shot on the Ctrain in the late 90's. Both a throw blanket and sweatshirt will drop January 24th in-store in NYC and online later at Sneakersnstuff.com.

Shaniqwa Jarvis is veteran photographer who works in commercial fashion, editorial, and the autobiographical artist space. Jarvis’ work blends the familiar aesthetics of fashion photography with the emotional affectability of personal portraiture. Most recently she released her first photo book eponymously titled that featured 160 images from her in- depth personal archive of portraits and landscapes from the last 20 years of traveling the world.
